The future is looking pretty bleak. Global temperatures are rising, species are going extinct and the US is locked for at least 4 years under the command of a guaranteed-to-be-unpopular president. Wubalubadubdub…

But who cares? Because Rick and Morty season 3 is coming back to our screens!

The love child of Back to the Future and a man in a tin-foil hat, Rick and Morty has fast become one of the most loved series on TV. It’s unique blend of sci-fi, philosophy and humour make it a brand beyond your normal adult cartoon.

What is my purpose? But, those who love Rick and Morty also know the pain involved in waiting for their next sweet taste. It’s been over a year since we’ve seen a new adventure of Rick C137, and all we can keep asking is when is Rick and Morty back?

Rick and Morty Season 3 Air Date

The creators of the show, Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, must be getting pretty sick of the question: when does Rick and Morty season 3 start?

Truth be told, they did this to themselves. Teasing us with Mr Poopy Butthole at the end of Rick and Morty season 2, claiming R&M would be back in March 2017.

Looks like they’ve finally given in though, as Dan Harmon laid our fears to rest at the 2016 Magic City Con.

Although there is no current Rick and Morty season 3 air date set in stone, you should expect to see at least the first episode before the year is out — said the lying creators!

*Rick and Morty season 3 is now expected to air early 2017. Problems with the animation are thought the be the cause of the anticipated show’s delay.

Previously in 2016, it was claimed that Harmon and the producers are having some disagreements over the show, and that these disagreements could potentially derail a 2016 premiere.

Whatever happens with the Rick and Morty release date, Dan Guterman, producer and writer for the show has confirmed that Rick and Morty season 3 is complete. We assume that means writing so there is something on the way sometime, we just have to stay tuned!

Change in Rick and Morty Season 3 Episodes

There is more to think about than the Rick and Morty season 3 release date; change is coming to the show.

Fans will have noticed that the series is unsettlingly short, with 11 episodes in season 1 and just 10 episodes in season 2 — Can I also take this moment to moan about the volume of news publications printing that both seasons had 10 episodes? They DIDN’T! You’re WRONG. Bloody watch it mate, and you’d remember.

When you can finally sit down to watch Rick and Morty season 3, you’ll be happy to learn that the fun will last 4 weeks longer, as the series is set for a 14 episode run.

Rick and Morty Season 3 News and Spoilers

What can we expect to see in Rick and Morty’s third outing? We don’t know for sure, but given the fact Rick is currently locked away in a high-security prison, we can imagine it’s going to be pretty explosive.

Still, we’ve had many hints, theories and rumours thrown at us in the months leading up to the ‘supposed’ Rick and Morty Season 3 premiere date, so let’s breakdown what we know so far:

  • Rick’s Jail Break: Rick won’t be in jail for long, nor will it be a dragged out affair. According to a statement made by Dan Harmon: “I don’t think anybody wants to do a third season that simply spends a whole bunch of episodes dealing with a situation that we created at the end of the second season. So I think that’s a non-spoiler way of saying things should be okay pretty quickly”.
  • Extra Writers Hired: With the rise in popularity, and an interest in gender diversity, the show has gained a plethora of new writers. Great news for fans. Faster output, more ideas flowing.
  • Beth and Jerry Face Divorce: The relationship between Beth and Jerry has always been rocky, a running gag of the series. The creators initially intended for it to be their “you killed Kenny” of the series, but have stated that this is no longer the case. Season 3 is set to be rough for the couple, as Dan Harmon teases divorce and a step forward in Beth’s story arc – maybe she’ll finally meet alternate reality husband, Paul Fleishman?
  • Vin Diesel to Appear in the Show: These are only tentative rumours, but there are whispers of Vin Diesel appearing in Rick and Morty season 3, potentially voicing Evil Morty.
  • Evil Morty Returns: Speaking of Evil Morty, there are even more crazy rumours flying around that Evil Morty will feature in the Rick and Morty season 3 premiere, helping Rick to escape prison, only to capture him for his own means. I’m not quite sure where this came from, so take it with a pinch of salt.
  • Interdimensional Cabe 3: It’s proven to the most divisive recurring theme of the series. Some people love the wacky improv; some f***ing hate it. Reports vary on this one, but Roiland himself has stated that it’s possible we’ll get another episode of interdimensional TV hijinks.
  • Return of Mr Meeseeks: Another returning gag in Rick and Morty season 3 is thought to be the lovable, fatalistically dedicated helper, Mr Meeseeks. Dan Harmon reportedly said: “I’m going to force Mr Meeseeks into season three”.
  • *Krombopulos Michael Saves the Day: As the rumour mill churns, some sources claim it will be our assassin friend that saves the day and busts Rick out of prison. There is precedent for this, after all. He breaks into another secure prison to kill ‘Fart’, before being crushed by Morty. People are quick to point out that he was indeed crushed by Rick’s ship, however, this is Rick and Morty! A Krombopulous Michael from a different dimension could appear, or maybe he was just badly, badly, injured. We’ll find out soon enough.
